On Wednesday, February 11, it is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and the World Day of the Sick, established by Pope John Paul II in 1992. On this day we pray in a special way for all the sick.
In connection with this day, it is possible to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at Mass at 18:00.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick grants a special grace that unites the sick person more closely with the suffering of Christ—for his own good and that of the Church. It brings comfort, peace of heart, courage, and also the forgiveness of sins when the person is no longer able to confess. If it is God’s will, this sacrament may also bring physical healing. In any case, the anointing prepares the sick person for the journey to the Father’s house.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be received:
– Any of the faithful as soon as they begin to be in danger of death due to illness or old age.
– Anyone who is seriously ill.
– A sick person who is about to undergo surgery.
– An elderly person, even if their life is not currently in immediate danger.
The faithful may receive it again if the illness worsens or if another serious illness develops. If possible, the sick person should make an individual confession before receiving this sacrament.
