Homily

Profession of Faith
On solemnities and Sundays the Profession of Faith is sung or recited, THE CONGREGATION STANDS.
All: I believe in one God, / the Father almighty, / maker of heaven and earth, / of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord, / Jesus Christ, / the Only Begotten Son of God, / born of the Father before all ages.
/ God from God, / Light from Light, / true God from true God, / begotten, not made, / consubstantial with the Father; / through him all things were made.
/ For us men / and for our salvation / he came down from heaven,
At the following words all bow their heads.
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, / and became man.
/ For our sake he was crucified / under Pontius Pilate, / he suffered death and was buried, / and rose again on the third day / in accordance with the Scriptures. / He ascended into heaven / and is seated at the right hand of the Father. / He will come again in glory / to judge the living and the dead / and his kingdom will have no end.
/ I believe in the Holy Spirit, / the Lord, the giver of life, / who proceeds from the Father and the Son, / who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, / who has spoken through the prophets.
/ I believe in one, / holy, catholic and apostolic Church. / I confess one Baptism / for the forgiveness of sins / and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead / and the life of the world to come,
/ Amen.

I believe in God the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

Intercessions

Each part of the intercessions ends with the words:
Priest: We pray to You.
Congregation: Lord, hear us.

The final part ends with the words:
Priest: Through Christ our Lord.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

Presentation of the Bread

THE CONGREGATION SITS. The priest goes to the altar, raises the paten with the host above the altar and says:
Priest: Blessed are You, Lord God of all creation, for through Your goodness we have received the bread we offer You, fruit of the earth and work of human hands; it will become for us the bread of life.
He places the paten with the host on the altar.
Congregation: Blessed be God forever.

The priest or deacon pours wine into the chalice, adds a little water, and quietly says:
Priest: By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled Himself to share in our humanity.

Bringing of the Wine

The priest raises the chalice above the altar and says:
Priest: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and work of human hands; it will become our spiritual drink.
Congregation: Blessed be God forever.

The priest bows and prays quietly:
Priest: Lord, we come to you with humble spirit and contrite heart; may our sacrifice be acceptable to you.

He washes his hands and says quietly:
Priest: Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

THE CONGREGATION STANDS.
Priest: Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.
Congregation: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands / for the praise and glory of his name, / for our good / and the good of all his holy Church.

Prayer over the Offerings
The priest reads the prayer, the text of which he takes from the Proper of the Mass, and at its conclusion the congregation responds:
Congregation: Amen.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II

Priest: The Lord be with you.
Congregation: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
Congregation: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
Congregation: It is right and just.

For this canon, the following Eucharistic Prayer of thanksgiving is usually used:
Priest: It is truly right and just that we always and everywhere give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, through your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. He is your Word, through whom you created all things, whom you sent to us as Savior and Redeemer, who became man by the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin. In your will he has won for you a holy people by allowing himself to be nailed to the cross, so as to overcome death and reveal the power of the resurrection. Therefore, together with the angels and the saints, we proclaim your glory and together sing your praise:

The priest sings or recites together with the congregation:
All: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, hosanna in the highest.
Priest: You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.

THE CONGREGATION KNEELS. The priest holds his hands over the offerings and prays:
Priest: Therefore, we ask you: sanctify these gifts by the breath of your Spirit,
He blesses the offerings, saying:
that they may become for us the Body and + Blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

On the evening when he gave himself into the hands of his persecutors,
The priest takes the bread, holds it slightly raised above the altar, and continues:
he took bread, gave you thanks, broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said:
He bows over the altar.
Priest: TAKE AND EAT OF IT, ALL OF YOU: THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

He shows the Consecrated Host to the congregation, places it back on the altar, kneels, rises and says:
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice,
The Priest takes the chalice in his hands, holds it slightly raised above the altar and continues:
once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:
He bows over the altar.
Priest: TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT: FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

He shows the Chalice to the congregation, places it back on the altar, kneels, rises and says:
Priest: The mystery of faith.
People: Lord, / we proclaim your Death / and profess your Resurrection, / until you come in glory.

THE PEOPLE STAND.
Priest: Remembering the death of your Son and his Resurrection, Lord, we offer you the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, and we thank you that you have held us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. We pray that the Holy Spirit may unite all of us who are to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
Look, Lord, upon your Church throughout the whole world, that she may grow in love and be in unity with our Pope N., our Bishop N., and all the clergy.

At a Mass for the dead, the following may be added:
Priest: Remember your servant N., whom you have (today) called from this world. Grant that he (she), who through Baptism has shared in the death of your Son, may also share in his Resurrection.

Priest: Remember also all our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have departed from this world. Grant that they may behold the glory of Your face. We ask You, have mercy on us all, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, the holy apostles, and all the saints who have pleased You throughout the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify You through Your Son Jesus Christ.

The priest raises the paten and the chalice above the altar and says:
Priest: Through Him, and with Him, and in Him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is Yours, forever and ever.
People: Amen.

HOLY COMMUNION

Priest: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
All: Our Father, / who art in heaven, / hallowed be Thy name; / Thy kingdom come; / Thy will be done / on earth as it is in heaven. / Give us this day our daily bread; / and forgive us our trespasses, / as we forgive those who trespass against us; / and lead us not into temptation, / but deliver us from evil.

Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, and grant us peace in our days. Keep us by Your grace from all anxiety and sin, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
People: For the kingdom, / the power, / and the glory are Yours / now and forever.

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you; look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.
Congregation: Amen.

The priest, facing the congregation, says:
Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
Congregation: And with your spirit.
The priest or deacon may add:
Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
The priest, deacon, and members of the congregation offer one another a sign of peace according to local custom.

Then the priest breaks the Eucharistic bread, takes a small piece, drops it into the chalice, and says quietly:
Priest: May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ bring eternal life to us who receive it.

Lamb of God
The priest sings or recites together with the congregation:
All: Lamb of God, / you take away the sins of the world, / have mercy on us. Lamb of God, / you take away the sins of the world, / have mercy on us. Lamb of God, / you take away the sins of the world, / grant us your peace.

The priest continues quietly:
Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit gave life to the world, free me by this your most holy Body and Blood from all my sins and from every evil. Keep me always faithful to your commandments, and never let me be parted from you.

Or:
Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, may your Body and Blood not bring me to judgment and condemnation, but through your mercy be for me blessing and salvation.

THE CONGREGATION KNEELS. The priest kneels, rises, turns toward the congregation while holding the host over the paten or the chalice, and says:
Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

The priest says quietly:
Priest: May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
He takes the chalice, saying:
May the Blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.

The priest recites the verse before Communion, the text of which he takes from the Proper of the Mass. Then he distributes Holy Communion to the members of the congregation, saying to each:
Priest: The Body of Christ.
The communicant replies:
Amen.
(Priest: The Blood of Christ.
The communicant replies:
Amen.)

Then the priest purifies the paten and the chalice, saying:
Priest: Lord, grant that what we have received with our mouth may take root in our hearts, that from this temporal gift it may become for us a pledge of immortality.

After a moment of silence, the priest says:
Priest: Let us pray.
THE CONGREGATION STANDS. The priest reads the Prayer after Communion, the text of which he takes from the Proper of the Mass, and at its conclusion the congregation responds:
Congregation: Amen.
