Narva St. Anthony’s Parish
The Narva St. Anthony’s Parish originated in the second half of the 19th century, when nearly a thousand weavers arrived in Narva from the Polish city of Łódź, creating a need for a Catholic church. The first chapel was built in 1873, but it soon became too small, so in 1900 the city allocated a plot for the parish, and Kreenholm Manufactory architect Paul Alisch designed a new neo-Gothic red-brick church, which was consecrated in 1907, completed with funding from Kreenholm director Julius Andrei. This church was heavily damaged during the Second World War and was finally demolished in 1970.
The parish resumed its activities in November 1993, holding services in the small church of the Alexander congregation before regaining its own premises. Today, the parish uses a chapel located at Vabaduse 16, whose construction date is not precisely known, but which was reconsecrated in 1998.
