The second stage of arranging the personal archive of the clergyman, theologian, and cultural and public figure Vello Salo (Endel Vaher) has been completed at the National Archives.
The archival inventory has been supplemented with 700 files (over 100 Mb) of digital text documents created by Vello Salo in the 1990s–2000s. The material includes manuscripts of longer studies and general overviews: Geschichte der Katholischen Kirche in Estland bis 1918 / History of the Catholic Church in Estonia up to 1918; A Short History of the Church in Estonia (co-author Olaf Sild); translations of Bible texts (co-translators Indrek Hirv, Fanny de Sivers), texts and lectionaries introducing and explaining Catholic liturgy.
Among the documents there are also later reprints of Vello Salo’s diary notes from the 1940s, the texts of Estonian-language broadcasts prepared for Vatican Radio in the 1950s–1960s, and correspondence with Uku Masing and Arno Vihalemm from the 1960s–1980s.
Also recorded are materials collected and compiled by the State Commission for the Investigation of the Repressive Policies of the Occupations, which Vello Salo chaired in 1996–2005, as well as data collected to clarify the fate of Estonians who fought in the Finnish army in World War II, and more.
The digital material also includes writings and translated texts by other authors – Fanny de Sivers, Ylo Maria Pärnik, Tunne Kelam, and others – and, for example, reprints of Uku Masing’s letters to literary scholar Otto Alexander Webermann from the 1960s.
Work in the archive continues on arranging Vello Salo’s extensive photo collection.
