Pope Leo XIV appointed a new Prefect of the Pontifical Household, Archbishop Petar Rajič.
This position had been vacant for more than six years, since the departure of Archbishop Georg Gänswein, who is now the Apostolic Nuncio to the Baltic States – Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Rajič himself served as nuncio in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania from 2019, before being appointed nuncio to Italy in 2024.
As Prefect, the Archbishop directs the work of the Prefecture, a curial body of the Holy See responsible for overseeing the Pope’s internal order and daily life.
