On February 25, catechesis begins for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation, also called the Sacrament of Confirmation, is in the Roman Catholic Church the sacrament that follows Baptism and confirms and strengthens the grace received at Baptism. Baptism and Confirmation in the Holy Spirit belong together: whoever has been baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ receives the Spirit of Christ.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1285) teaches: “The reception of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. Through the sacrament of Confirmation the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.”
According to CCC 1303:
Therefore, Confirmation increases and deepens baptismal grace:
- it roots us more deeply in our status as children of God, which enables us to say: “Abba, Father” (Rom 8:15);
- it unites us more firmly with Christ;
- it increases in us the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
- it binds us more perfectly to the Church;
- it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit so that we may be true witnesses of Christ in word and deed, able to spread and defend the faith, confess the name of Christ boldly, and never be ashamed of the Cross.
Confirmation is administered by the bishop with anointing, to confer the “seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit.” This special outpouring of the Holy Spirit leaves an indelible mark on the soul.
Catechesis precedes Confirmation. In 2026, the catechesis for Confirmation will take place starting from February 25 every other Wednesday from 18:45 to 20:00 in the John Paul II Hall, for a total of 6 sessions.
Catechesis is especially intended for those who were baptized or received into the Catholic Church last year. Those who have already been confirmed are also welcome if they wish to understand more deeply the state of being a child of God.
