The 47th European Youth Meeting will take place from 28 December 2024 to 1 January 2025 in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia.
The next European Taizé Youth Meeting will take place in Estonia's capital Tallinn at the end of 2024. This was announced by Brother Matthew, the new Prior of the Taizé Christian Community, on Saturday evening at the 46th Taizé Youth Meeting in Ljubljana.
Thousands of young people from 48 countries have been gatheringin the Slovenian capital since Thursday and will continue to do so until 1 January to pray together, discuss and meet local Christians. The event was organised at the invitation of the Slovenian Bishops' Conference together with the Archdiocese of Ljubljana, the various denominations and the state authorities.
Several church leaders sent messages of greeting
Several church leaders, including Pope Francis, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, and the world leader of the Anglicans, Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury, as well as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sent messages of greeting.
Young participants from Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Ukraine and Hungary were the most numerous. At the last evening prayer of the meeting in Ljubljana this Sunday (New Year's Eve), Brother Matthew will invite the young participants to reflect on what initiatives they can take at home as pilgrims of peace, it was said. The 47th European Taizé Youth Meeting in Tallinn is also scheduled to take place from 28 December to 1 January.
